The Darkest December - a poem

It was a dark december,
Ruddy, black and winter,
Raindrops like bullets falling on these embers.

The memory is clear - no need to fantasize,
Minature Katrina's are wiping out my eyes

Home is supposed to be the safety
Family, friends and love
Seemed like a cell, so is this what they call love?

Street come be my home,
Asphalt be my bed,
At least I'll have a peaceful place to go and lay my head

God I wish I was dead,
Can't seem to make it right,
I want somebody as a friend but I'm alone tonight

Declare an armistice,
I just need time,
To gather all my thoughts and simply just to clear my mind.

Just make me blind,
For eight hours or so,
I won't miss you world just to let ya know

Drift in a wonder
I'll slip into a dream,
Strip it down and make it sanitized bright and clean

And when I slumber off,
I'll be rejuvenated. Illuminated.
This world is what I make it.

And as I close my eyes,
Dream.
